Went to a seminar in California a week ago and got to meet the author of this PSA and thought Id share. As a foster mom to many dogs each year, and an owner to an amazing pack of quirky weirdos, walking my dogs is actually filled with much anxiety for 2 reasons: 1)that an aggressive dog will be on the loose and 2) that Ill hear she/he is friendly from a short distance away! The dogs I walk arent always as friendly as the dog coming at us, and sometimes its me that isnt feeling particularly friendly!, but my dogs are on leash, they are in control, they are on the sidewalk and we are sometimes practising leash walking or leave its...sometimes Im slow walking a dog that has just had surgery, and yet the off leash friendly dogs are coming at us, uninvited. This is a great article to read and I hope some of you owners that are awesome and have super friendly dogs, read this, and understand that a lot of people out walking their dogs are feeling anxiety because of off leash friendly dogs in areas that arent for off leash dogs. Its the law you guys! If you love it, put a leash on it!
