Went to see Kool and the Gang and Gladys Knight at the Hollywood - TopicsExpress

Went to see Kool and the Gang and Gladys Knight at the Hollywood Bowl this past Saturday night. You know Im going to keep it 1hunnerd: The band was full of energy and the people were READY to have a great time. The air becomes infused with electricity when you KNOW you are about to turn up! Founding members Kool and Ronald Bell are both still with the band. They played all the hits... I was waiting on Jungle Boogie and Hollywood Swingin...they had the audience Par-Tay-Ing!!! There were two younger brothas (dont know their names) on vocals. They represented, making sure the vocals were as authentic as possible, no vocal calisthenics, hit records dont need all that. There were two ladies on each side of the stage whose mics werent turned up loud enough, but their presence watered down some ot the testosterone on stage...not complaining, just saying. Shout out to Michael Ray my Brotha in Fonk...their trumpet player, for hooking a Sistah up! Gladys was the BOMB! So seasoned, professional, hitting those notes effortlessly and looking fabulous all at the same time! She did a little segment with her Dancing with the Stars partner and the choreograpy was like buttah. Now lets keep in mind that Gladys is 70 years old, but she didnt even breathe hard or break a sweat! I was waiting on her to sing Neither One of Us and Grapevine ...amazing. Her brother Bubba came out and did Pharrells Happy which was hilarious and a pleasant surprise. She also had about 6 singers on vocal support, some of whom have been with her for years. I wanna be like her when I grow up...for real! Choclet 8:9
