Went to see The Grand Budapest Hotel, the new film by Wes Anderson, and it was lovely. Perhaps not quite as awesome as Moonrise Kingdom, but still really good. Anderson has really honed his techniques so that all the elements of his film-making mesh seamlessly into one unique, cohesive style. Often, highly stylized films, however beautiful or thought-provoking they may be, can come across as sterile curiosities. Its a testament to Andersons skill that, despite all the artifice that he uses to tell his stories, they remain emotionally engaging, touching tales.
