Went to the Hunter to Helmand conference at the royal college of surgeons for the last couple of days. Was an excellent conference on military medicine over the last 250 years. The best speakers were chris starling on ww1 casualty evacuation routes, andrew bamji on ww1 facial reconstruction (who I annoyed with my question!), a retired ramc brigadier who was the NATO head of military medicine in Iraq & afghan, Joanna bourke (who was plugging her book!), mark Harrison - excellent on the western desert & dday medical support & Edgar jones - also excellent on shell shock comparisons between ww1 & afghan. I had to leave to pick up Bethan so missed the last sessions on the Falklands & afghan. The audience was packed with colonels & eminent surgeons - very high calibre!
