Were all heard the Greeks give so much to philanthropy and Soooo many leaders are/were Greek arguments, but this article makes a good point about what kills college students. To be sure, 60 hazing deaths is 60 too many, but its far from the most prevalent killer of college students. (As an aside, I think the thing that fuels anti-Greek sentiment but is rarely mentioned in the articles is that people resent the good-ol-boy network that Greeks have. Its a legitimate concern, but its extremely rare for someone to come out and say they have a problem with it. Instead there is a lot of hand-wringing about the idiotic things that a small fraction of the Greek population do.) (Also typically left unsaid is that its impossible to quantify the positive peer pressure that Greek organizations create. Philanthropy and leadership are two of the bigger examples, but it happens in small ways too. I firmly believe these positive effects outnumber the bad by a longshot.
