Were not telling you this to frighten you. Were telling you because those in power are not taking it seriously, and its down to the rest of us to take them to task about it. The amount of carbon dioxide that we have put into the atmosphere is enough to cause 30 metres of sea level rise. Of that, 1-2 metres is almost certain to occur in this century, 4-5 metres is probable and more is possible. As Ranyl says: Thus a large proportion of humanity is under direct threat from this sea level rise. The USA military are planning tactical retreat, however moving an army base is not moving a city (London), a state (Florida) or a country (Bangladesh). What we do about this is the big question were all grappling with at the moment.
