Were on our way folks. I saw my cancer surgeon at USC today and rather that do more tests to determine if my liver spots are cancer, were are going to do a laparoscopic surgery where she will try to determine what they are. If she finds evidence of cancer, she will give me a new bile duct and close me up. If she cannot substantiate they are cancer, she will proceed with the full nine yards -- remove my tumor, give me a new bile duct, repair a portal vein by taking a vein from my neck and attend to any pancreas need. That will put me in the hospital for two weeks and set up a 2-3 month recovery time. By recovery we mean putting me back on the golf course. I will be tired during the recovery. So this was good news because we seem to be at a critical juncture in my treatment. The chemo has damaged nerves in my hands, giving me a tingling numbness, and my tumor markers have apparently stopped going down. I have a couple preparatory steps first. I need a stress test with a cardiologist to determine if my heart can withstand the surgery. I believe the flirting I have done in my life has put my heart in excellent shape so this should be a slam dunk. I also need an ultrasound of my neck to make sure my veins are good to go. We are trying to schedule those right now. The surgery will be scheduled after those results come in. I am thinking golf in August or September. She is not promising that I may not need chemo in the future. If my liver spots are cancer, then we are looking at less attractive choices. But the 5-year survival rate for those who have surgery is 41 percent, while it is only 3 percent for those who cant have surgery. Thank you all for your prayers and support.
