#WesternAustralia #Weather #SevereWarning #WA #CTCorp 10:54am Update:~~Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds and heavy rain for people in the Lower West, South West, South Coastal and Great Southern forecast districts Issued at 10:54 am WST on Friday 29 August 2014. For people in parts of WA southwest of a line from Lancelin to Northam to Lake Grace to Bremer Bay. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Perth Metropolitan area, Mandurah, York, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Bridgetown, Narrogin, Katanning and Albany. Weather Situation A slow moving cold front is continuing to move through southwest parts of the state. The front is likely to produce HEAVY RAINFALL that may cause FLASH FLOODING. Rainfall from this front is expected to be heavier than normal. In isolated areas there is also the slight risk of thunderstorms with DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. Moderate to heavy rainfall is currently being experienced over southern suburbs of Perth and also southwest parts of the state. This is likely to extend to remaining parts of the Perth Metropolitan area early Friday afternoon. Conditions have begun to ease from the southwest and will ease over the Perth Metropolitan area early Saturday morning. A Flood Warning is current for the Preston River Catchment. Please refer to the latest warning for further details. In the 24 hours to 9am, the following rainfall totals have been recorded: Donnybrook - 94.8mm, Donnybrook East - 81.6mm, Thomson Brook - 76mm and Windy Harbour - 62mm. This is typical weather for this time of the year but rainfall is expected to be heavier than normal and may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home. If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current. Slow down and turn your headlights on. Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. If it is raining heavily and you can not see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm WST Friday. This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus web site at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 213. The Bureau and Department of Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly.
