Weve been watching the four seasons of the series Spartacus over the past few weeks. Such fun! Lots of blood and gore, fighting and yelling, and men (and women) with shiny muscles. This series was filmed in NZ with mainly NZ and Aussie actors, and as always, its success relies not only on great acting but also great storytelling and characterisation. Andy Whitfield, the actor who played Spartacus in the first season, unfortunately contracted non-Hodgkin lymphoma and died before he could film the rest of the series. In this YouTube video, the other actors carry out a haka (a Maori war dance) in his honour, which is incredibly poignant and touching.
