We’ll be honest, we were a bit wary of True Blood Season 7 after the shit show that was Season 6, but the last season of the show started off on a killer note (literally) when a fan favorite who has been on the supernatural drama since Season 1 was seemingly killed off. So who bit the dust, you ask? If you haven’t watched the Season 7 premiere then click away now, but if you have then keep reading for our thoughts and theories. When the Hep-V-infected vamps descended upon Bon Temps in the midst of mayor Sam Merlotte’s (Sam Trammell) supernatural mixer, all hell broke lose and Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley) was the most notable casualty. At least we think she died. After all, all we saw of her was a pile of blood and guts that Lettie May was crying over — we never actually watched her die. Entertainment Weekly chatted with Rutina following her character’s demise and she was surprisingly upbeat about the whole thing. “I found out over the hiatus about the end of my journey on the show,” she revealed. Calling her character’s death “great,” she continued, “I think somebody had to go. To have a main character right off the bat go, that’s gonna bring everybody into the show. It’s like, ‘Okay, and the show has started.’ It’s kind of like the catalyst for everything else that’s gonna probably happen — I don’t know what’s gonna happen, because I didn’t read anything else because I want to be surprised. I think it’s kinda cool that the last time you see me, it looks like I’m gonna win the fight, and then you cut to Lettie Mae. Me and that vampire went at it, and unfortunately, he wins.” And even though Tara is likely dead now, Rutina is thankful for her six plus years on the show. “They’ve given me such an incredible journey on this show that I’ve never had any complaints about what they’ve written for me. So when I found out, I was just like, ‘Okay, great. Let’s get it started. This is the final season. We can’t all make it to the end.’ You wouldn’t have a show. There wouldn’t be any drama. It wouldn’t be True Blood if somebody didn’t die,” she explained. But like we stated above, we never actually watched Tara die, we just saw the aftermath. So is Sookie Stackhouse’s (Anna Paquin) BFF really gone for good? Rutina seems pretty set on that, but she notes that there is a caveat. “She’s dead. But I can tease that dead doesn’t always mean gone on True Blood.” And there you have it! Do you think Tara is dead, or will she reappear when we least expect it?
