We’ve all experienced inflammation before; whether it’s from suffering a sore throat or spraining our ankle at a soccer game. Inflammation is a natural part of healing! White blood cells, red blood cells and lymphatic fluids are rushed to the area to repair the damaged tissue or kill the pathogen trying to invade your body. But ongoing, chronic inflammation is another story. When the “normal” responses have gone out of control, it can create havoc inside your whole body, not just the inflamed area. Osteoarthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout are only some diseases where the inflammation response has gone into overdrive. Limiting stress, sleeping adequately, practicing mild exercise and avoiding your triggers or allergens are wonderful ways to keep your inflammation at bay. Also, having a healthful diet full of whole foods and good fats can help tremendously to keep your whole body (not just one area or organ) healthy and inflammation free. Here is a list of foods that help lower inflammation and some that cause it. How many are you eating everyday?
