We’ve received an article from a Sikh lady, Jaspreet Kaur sharing her experiences as a Bengali film producer. She has produced a Bangla Film named “C/O SIR” in Kolkata which is a runaway hit at the Box Office. She has expressed her trials and tribulations through the entire process, which has made her stronger as an individual and more determined than ever professionally, to stay in the industry The article makes for an interesting read. Here is an excerpt: “ ‘C/O Sir’ released with a bang and was major success at the box office. As a first time producer I couldnt have asked for anything more. Going through the entire process of movie making has enlightened me at many different levels. At every step of the way I had to take a leap of faith; it seems that the world of cinema believes in the principle of ‘in mistrust we trust’…. I was not one of those stereotypes and to add insult to injury – I was a woman, and a young one at that. The people in the industry are comfortable with women working ‘for them’, as actors, singers, assistants, and what have you, but not as bosses who would run the show and control the purse strings. In my short stint there have been several occasions when I was bullied and pressurized by the chauvinists who are a part of the ‘nexus of film making’ – but each such instance has only made me stronger and more resolute in what I want to achieve. The runaway success of my first venture is my answer to all of them and I am more determined than ever to gain a stronger foothold in this industry and venture into Bollywood in the near future….. Before I sign off, just wanted to re-iterate, I am here and I am here to stay. Now thats one heck of a gutsy gal!!!
