We’ve stocked our pantries with bananas since the United Fruit - TopicsExpress

We’ve stocked our pantries with bananas since the United Fruit Company (now Chiquita) started shipping them from Latin America in the 19th century. Today the average American eats 10.4 pounds, or 40 bananas, every year—up from seven pounds in 1970. Besides the cheapness, part of the draw is the fruit’s convenience: Banana peels are nature’s equivalent of candy wrappers. Sure, they’re organic, but the rinds still end up in landfills—and we all know how those things wreak havoc on the environment. Food waste generates 25 percent of methane emissions in the U.S. Here, we provide nine ways to use banana peels instead of tossing them in the trash. Did you eat a banana this morning? Get it out of the trash and make use of it! ow.ly/AxcAP
