What 9/11 means to me. My mothers grandparents on her father - TopicsExpress

What 9/11 means to me. My mothers grandparents on her father side were originally from Nova Scotia, Canada. As a surprise, we took her, myself, wife and 2 almost 3 year old Olivia with us to Halifax, Nova Scotia in September of 2000. Wonderful trip, drove 1000 miles, from one end to the other and even made it to Prince Edward Island by ferry. We spent a week, but just did not seem to feel we had discovered all the places our relatives had seen, done and lived. I started in June, the next year, looking at flights to return to Nova Scotia that September and due to the best flight rates occurring at the beginning the week, I always choose 09/11/2001 as a departure date from Atlanta. The route would be the same, fly out of Macon (hate Atlanta traffic), changeover in Atlanta early in the morning, fly on to Bostons Logan International, changeover to Canada Airlines to Halifax. I could remember looking down at New York City around 10 in the morning, then we flew towards Halifax, weather perfect, clear, a little cool, good traveling weather, nothing but great memories. But, as I looked at the flights through the months of June and July, I had something pulling me back, keeping me from finalizing the flights, to where I finally told the family that we would be going somewhere else this year. Then, 9/11 came, the time we would have been flying over New York, would have been the time the towers were hit, not on the same flights of course, but those that landed in Halifax that day, stayed in Halifax for a lot longer than planned. I know that the God I believe in, sheltered us that day, as he has many times since then and I know in whom I have believed.
