What Deepavali actually is For people who love God in the form - TopicsExpress

What Deepavali actually is For people who love God in the form of Lord Vishnu and His incarnations, Deepavali celebration is a commemoration of 3 different incidents. 1. Deepavali day was the day the demon king Mahabali, out of devotion, surrendered to the feet of Lord Vamana and attained salvation. 2. Deepavali day was the day Lord Rama returned to His capital after undergoing several austerities for 14 years and after killing the demon king Ravana. 3. Deepavali day was the day Mother Satyabhama (an incarnation of Mother Earth) killed the demon king Narakasura out of Her devotion for Her husband, Lord Krishna. For those who love God in the form of Lord Shiva, it is a happy culmination of an austerity they perform for 20 days prior to the Deepavali day. The austerity is called ‘Kethara Gowri Vrata’ as it was first performed by Mother Gowri to please Lord Shiva and He granted Her to become a half of His transcendental body. So, regardless of which form of God you choose to love, all the above symbolisms have one similar message for us: We should perform activities that require us to sacrifice our ego, selfishness & materialistic desires in our daily life so that our Inner Light can defeat our inner darkness. Any such activity is an austerity. May we shed our ego & selfish desires, and enjoy the eternal bliss of our Inner Light! I wish all of you a very Happy Deepavali :-D
