What Does It Depend Upon ? Give my words a glance Lend thoughts to my tempest For the music is fast fading In the deafening unrest My theme may not be cogent On the cursory glance Nothing of the sort That will put your feet to dance But they stem from my own past Of not so yester years When losing out on position or posessions Was not in the book of fears When I would cringe and falter Whenever I had to lie Or by breaking into a smile And not know why not to cry When feelings governed discretion And nothing mattered more When everything was on face value And never on a different score But as I daresay I grew up I learnt to clinically reconcile Fostering greed, lust and envy Carefully perfecting every guile. Somehow in the bargain I climbed a social notch or two And my list of acquaintances flourished Though friendships became far and few But deep in my heart, it kept growing That unburied protrudant desire To escape the gnawing misery To quench that engulfing fire Will I ever be able To muster the cathartic strength To break from the shackles That have kept me at length From slipping into peaceful sombre From breaking into a joyous laugh Or will I have to settle for rhetoric When theyd be wording my cenotaph? Does that child in me ,need be bludgeoned Unceremoniously and rather quick For the being to live up to the ritual Of pursuing goals esoteric? Or does he have a chance To overpower the odds against ? Everyday losing out on time, As the answer comes it depends.
