What I learned on Facebook today. The origin of Red Neck: "Way back when, the mines in the southern US were unionizing there was some real flap. Mine owners were building small armies of union busters. Fights were getting huge. So big that the US military sent troops. The northern miners -mostly Pennsylvania I believe- went down to help their union brothers. During the troubles they took to wearing red bandanas on their necks to recognize friend from foe. They looked for fellow rednecks. So even though now it has an entirely different meaning, it had a neat origin. Standing up for their fellow workers and future union brothers (and later sisters). " Huh
