What a Thanksgiving week! Great prs by my athletes, overall outstanding job by the ratio crew!!! My parents had their first intimate setting with our soon to be children and no fighting! Tonight ended this long and grateful week with not just a visit from a beloved former student, but with our usual ritual of reading and watching Daniel Tiger and other cartoon shows before bedtime. But during our usual binding ritual, our daughters became distracted with Mom and more so with her twins ( ladies yall know what I mean). Its natural to be curious so its nothing new that I need to write down. But what happened next touched my wife and I and brought us to tears. While our oldest was curious and giggling as a normal 5 year old, our youngest was more transfixed, studying them instead. My wife asked Why do you want to look at them so much?, Gloria, our youngest, replied Because they are beautiful.. and then she got close to my wifes chest and began to caress and hesitated.... almost to nurse. At that moment I realized what she went through. Our Gloria was robbed of a mother. Not the mother she was taken away from, but a mother, momma, mommy, mom. She had a look on her face as though she wanted to do something but was unsure of it. So I leaned over to gently kiss my wifes chest to show her it was ok. Then I walked out to give some privacy only to see my wife crying later and see our Gloria with a truly solemn look on her face asking my wife not to leave. I had learned that Gloria had followed what I did and even nursed on my wife. The look on her face told us that she never felt that before and she knew she had been abandoned. I now have a newfound respect for real mothers and the reason why they are the default parent. Our little girl was truly neglected that no one will ever see except us and at that moment she was thankful.
