What a badass week in music. Aside from multiple other releases, Scottish duo The Vaselines release their (big breathe needed for this one) third album, second post reunion, reunion album. The album V for Vaselines is set to release in the US next week but is ready for download and purchase in the UK! Yay! To be honest,I dont know much about The Vaselines. Im not quite sure why I never took the time. I know of their importance to bands such as Nirvana and the succession of The Pretty Flowers but I never really knew or even listened to much else from them. My real first encounter comes from when I worked in this super killer record store, Zia. One of my coworkers used to have this recurring pick, essentially a c.d we would play over head for the night, and it was always Enter The Vaselines. From the second I heard that album I was in love with it. I couldnt get enough of the upbeat,fast-drum SubPop sound. Unfortunately, more likely because of circumstance in my life,I never followed through with listening to the rest of their discography. The release of V for Vaselines has not only reminded me but inspired me to be more absolute with the music I like. The first single off the album lives up to everything a Vaselines song would be,or what I would believe it to be. I will genuinely have this song on repeat for the days. The duo play off each other beautifully as they perhaps sing in reference to the time lost and time spent as a group. One lost year which holds a surfy tone has a certain sad or submissive fatigue, that compels you to either nod along or smoke your last cigarette. If youre someone who doesnt wanna care about tomorrow or looking for a new sound to angrily glare at people on the street too,I now suggest every Vaselines song ever. https://youtube/watch?v=SFWeHu0dH5E
