What a blast the past twelve months have been! Starting with more than 100 Victorian Rovers bringing in the New Year at WAM, through to the Christmas Party this evening, 2014 has been jam-packed with adventure, excitement, friendship, progress and most importantly fun. I would like to thank each and every one of you for your hard-work and service over the past twelve months and encourage you to continue this going forward. Thanks especially to those who helped run Crews, Regions, Events, Sub-Committees and the Victorian Rover Council. Those who received WF Waters and other Service Awards this year also deserve special recognition. As a section we are getting increasing acknowledgement for our value to Scouting in Victoria so we must strive to ensure we continue to live up to this. It is currently a time of increasing change for Scouting and the Rover section to ensure we get more people enjoying Scouting and that all members get the most from their time in Scouts. For us, this will mean striving to make sure Rovers is a welcoming and safe environment for all members, that we deliver an engaging and varied program and that we better support Rovers taking on leadership and service roles, increasingly beyond the Rover section. I’m particularly excited by the potential for the Rover section in the coming years as we work towards the Moot in 2016/17. There will be changes and challenge to come no doubt, but together we can make the next 12 months even better than the past. Finally, my challenge to you all is tonight, at the Rover Christmas party, thank someone for their hard work throughout the year. Might be someone who has done a lot, someone who helped you in a specific way, someone who mentored you or someone who is a constant quiet achiever. However you do it, the important thing is that we share our gratitude and continue to encourage and support each other. I look forward to seeing you tonight and at Surfmoot to kick off 2015 with a bang. Until then, I hope you enjoy a relaxing and refreshing break over summer and I wish you an awesome festive season and a Happy New Year. Cheers, Lachlan Preston Chairman Victorian Rover Council vicrovers.au/news/1168
