What a day today, June 30, 2014. I gave away a house today. How many times can you say that? Me? 4 times. For the 4th year in a row, Ive been honored to announce the winner for the House for Hope. It benefits Community Renewal. Funny thing - it took me half the newscast (it felt like) to convince the winner it wasnt a prank phone call .. and it was for real. She bought in, drove on over, and promptly asked what the heck we were doing in her house. I finished an interview with her, while sitting with her in her new master bathtub. Now thats classic TV. So tonight, the new gang is finally together. Pat left and Dom left on maternity leave - so I was solo for the last 3 months. And now Stephen just departed us for a new career in radio. But Dom has returned. And our new chief meteorologist is in the house. And I just got back from vacation - so tonight at 10pm felt like the first day of school. I was tempted to smell the scripts to see if they had that (warning: old school reference in 3..2..1) fresh off the rolling ink printer smell. Many of you have posted FB messages, asking questions about the changes and switches and new faces. Adria, our sports director, wanted to move to mornings - so she took over my old spot in the AM. Frankly, at times, its a good problem to have .. when you have people under your own roof professionally qualified to move from one show to another. But we get it .. it can get a little confusing .. so we deeply appreciate your patience. But the biggest concern from viewers seems to be .. just when we get used to someone, they leave. Just understand this .. Shreveport can be a very transient town for TV news. Many of our younger talented reporters arent married and dont have kids. So of course, the bigger the city, generally the bigger the paycheck - so its inevitable theyll be moving on. But some of us older folks, well be hanging around a while. Unless Letterman calls and says that Colbert guy just isnt going to work out.
