What a fantastic day; hot & the rain kept away. And a big thanks to everyone, who paid us a visit and helped out at the ‘Festival Folklore Latino’ event today. What can I say, lots of wonderful dancing, music and food from South America, and really interesting people. The pizzas went down a treat; we made about 25 with the help of four hard working young volunteers and one of our management committee members. The children made some really great clay art pieces and I hope everyone enjoyed the trip into the wild garden. Lots of the children were playing in the new play house; one young person asked if we could “build stairs on to the roof” Next weekend we are taking part in the big butterfly count, a nationwide survey aimed at helping assess the health of our environment. Why count butterflies? Butterflies react very quickly to change in their environment which makes them excellent biodiversity indicators. Butterfly declines are an early warning for other wildlife losses. That’s why counting butterflies can be described as taking the pulse of nature. Who is running the survey? The survey is run by the charity Butterfly Conservation. It’s going to be fun and interesting, so why not pop in and become a young naturalist. And if the weather stays dry and warm we will have a BBQ on the Sunday afternoon. C U next weekend.
