A strengthening high in the Great Australian Bight will move slowly eastwards over the next few days, extending a ridge through much of Queensland. Cold west to southwesterly winds extend through western, central and southern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Patchy cloud and isolated showers about the southern interior, most likely near the New South Wales border. Fine and mostly clear conditions elsewhere. Moderate to fresh and gusty south to southwesterly winds in the west of the state. Moderate to fresh and gusty west to southwest winds elsewhere. Monday 18 August Mostly fine conditions are expected in the tropics with just the chance of isolated showers about the far northeastern Peninsula. Cloud cover, isolated shower activity and gusty winds will result in a cold day over the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Fresh and gusty southwesterly winds in the southeast of the state. Mostly moderate south to southwest winds elsewhere. Tuesday 19 August A low in the Tasman Sea will shift east with winds easing over southeastern Queensland. Some cloud cover will likely persist near the southeast inland border with possible isolated showers. The high will strengthen over the Great Australian Bight and extend a ridge into remaining parts of Queensland. Mostly fine conditions are therefore expected with only isolated showers over the northern Peninsula. Some early frosts are likely through the central and southeast interior. Wednesday 20 August The high in the Great Australian Bight will slowly strengthen as it moves eastwards, strengthening the ridge through Queensland. Isolated showers are possible over southern Queensland as an upper trough is likely to develop over New South Wales. Isolated showers are also possible over the northern Peninsula in the onshore wind flow. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. Early frosts are likely for the central and southeastern interior. Thursday 21 August The high will maintain a moderate to fresh onshore flow along the east coast of Queensland. Increasing moisture about the east coast combined with an upper trough is likely to bring mostly isolated showers to the southeast coast, with showers possibly extending elsewhere into the southeast and into the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. Early frosts are likely for the central interior. _______________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Mostly sunny.
