What a huge difference one week makes! Yesterday was the 1 week - TopicsExpress

What a huge difference one week makes! Yesterday was the 1 week anniversary of rescuing this sweet boy from the Public Storage facility on Causeway and Providence. I have been fostering him since Friday morning and cannot say enough good things; what a well-mannered and docile dog he is. I wanted some time with him to assess his temperament and I cannot find anything negative to say about him. There is not an ounce of aggression in him considering all he has been through...I have bathed him, brushed him, cleaned his ears, lifted him in and out of my SUV and he is as calm as can be through it all. He spends most of his days just laying around my house, so he is VERY LOW maintenance. He is 52 lbs and while he could stand to gain a little weight, he will remain this size, as he is thought to be 4-5 years old. He is wonderful around my kids and 2 dogs - and most importantly, he appears to be completely house broken. I am giving him more and more free roam of the house and he has not had one accident yet. I took him up to the soccer fields a few nights ago and kids were approaching him left and right and he was as sweet as can be to all of them. He is really attached to me and wants to be near me all the time, so last night he slept out of his crate and in my bedroom, with no issues at all. There is no doubt, he LOVES being indoors - as he only goes outside to go potty and immediately wants to come back in. He walks on a leash really well and is crate trained also. He is fully vetted, HW-, neutered, free of fleas, micro chipped (although, it is NOT registered to anyone), has been dewormed, and on a HW preventative. Monday he was given a steroid shot for itching - he has very dry skin which could be from allergies, or it could be as simple as from a very poor diet since we do not know how long he has been on his own. I am feeding a grain free diet and adding salmon oil and I have already noticed a difference in the appearance of his coat. No owner has come forward yet, which is probably a good thing, because he deserves so much better. I have reached out to several rescues in the Tampa Bay area and have had 2 willing to do a courtesy post on PetFinder so far. A rehoming fee, home visit, and references are all a must, whether with me personally or with a rescue. I will NOT hand this dog over to just anyone and am fully prepared to foster him as long as it takes to ensure he has a good home. If you feel differently about the adoption process above and are easily offended by such requests, then this is not the dog for you. Thank you for your understanding! Please share this with everyone you know and of course, let me know if you would like to meet Luther - my 9 yo daughter named him after a book she is reading. ;-)
