What a incredible day so far and I hope you dont mind me sharing it. Its also been a year of incredible lows and now emotional highs. After Lisa and I agreed to separate and divorce, I not only lost my wife of 9 years but also my best friend. Also I was looking at a failed career change and financial burdens the likes of which, I had never seen before. Working 3rd shift was incredibly boring so in an attempt to get in better shape, avoid boredom and reduce my frustration with the world around me I started a love affair with an old broken down treadmill. Those first miles were rough and it was literally one mile and maybe a mile and half at a time. I started setting goals and before I knew it I was running further and further. With some inspiration from an old friend I even quit a 20 year nicotine habit that I could no longer afford. I ran a couple of successful 5Ks and while talking with an acquaintance I learned of a half marathon being held in Florence. I immediately looked it up online and set it as my next goal. I never considered myself a runner...I had enjoyed it in the past but never would have dreamed I would attempt a 13 mile run on my own. I trained as much as I could and hoped it would be enough. As I finished the last mile of todays Honor Run I became very emotional thinking about all that had happened and how I even had gotten to this point. Luckily there were not too many other runners around me because I would have been caught laughing and crying all at the same time. Next came the biggest joy I have in a very long time...crossing the finish line. Exhausted and even a little confused my mother and father came up behind me and greeted me with a hug. There were NO two people in the world Id would have rather seen at that time. Theyve both supported me through the good and the bad of this past year. I am a very lucky man to have had the privilege of being their son. Thanks Mom and Dad for everything and Im so grateful I got to share that moment with you both.
