What a long weekend its been for us in the Far North. A drive - TopicsExpress

What a long weekend its been for us in the Far North. A drive along 90 Mile Beach turned into a life and death situation when we were flagged down by some young tourists to help a friend who had fallen from their moving car and was lying seriously hurt in the wet sand. It was a rather scary situation at first, with the young man bleeding and unconscious. As we were in a very remote location (one hour north of our coastal home in Ahipara) it took a long for the emergency services to arrive - after I had to hike a long way up a few sandhills to get phone reception. All I can say is that Im so proud to live in a place where people will go out of their way to help those in need. Two fire trucks and crews, police, an ambulance and the Wespac rescue helicopter, along with DJ the fantastic DOC worker who helped direct them to our location meant that a seriously ill young man was able to receive the medical help he needed and will hopefully make a full recovery. On our way home, we were feeling rather relieved, but totally exhausted after our unexpected adventure - until we saw a large fish beach itself on an incoming wave after being chased ashore. We could hardly believe it... an awesome sized kahawai, fit as a fiddle and ready to make its way into our frying pan. Easiest fish weve ever caught. So our Anniversary Day has been rather eventful, but with a belly full of pan fried fish and a cup of coffee steaming next to me... Im ready to start hunting out some more gorgeous fabrics to upholster three couches with. Love our corner of the world!!
