What a message!!! Offense of The Cross. The very best message I have ever heard on the true, the powerful and the effective message of the Cross. Quote... Anything outside of Faith and Grace in and through the completed sacrifice that Jesus Christ made on our behalf on the Cross is an OFFENSE to the Cross of Christ. That offense has never ceased. Its been going on for over 2,000 years. Why? It offends mans pride. It offends his fancy power to save himself and step on the toes of the self-righteous and those preaching salvation through the message of keeping the law, keeping man made rules and traditions and their own good works. Let us not follow those teachers who are not friends to the Cross (Spurgeon). Let us not be distressed by the offense of the Cross. If it would be up to some denominations, they would rip out the entire book of Galatians, Hebrews and most of Pauls writings. Why? Because it is an offense to those who are attempting on their own ability to earn their salvation and justification through keeping the law and their own good works. You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by the law; you have fallen from Grace. ( Galations 5:4 ) I marvel that you are turning away so soon from HIM who called you in the Grace of Christ to a different gospel. (Galations 1:6.) Those who are leading men and women back into the trap of salvation through keeping the law, following man made rules and regulations and doing good works. Galations 2:21..I do not set aside the Grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain. Oh, foolish Galations! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? Galations 3:1 So, so much more to this message I just heard and thankful for those teachers who will BOLDLY preach and teach the TRUE and POWERFUL message of the Cross. But for the Cross...Christ and HIM crucified!! We have a new and better covenant based on new and better promises. Jesus and HIM crucified and Jesus and HIM resurrected. The new covenant originated and began in Jesus Christ and will end IN CHRIST, who is the head of the church. Quote from Spurgeon...The Old Testament cries out, DO, DO, DO!! The New Testament under the New Covenant screams out, DONE, DONE, DONE!!! There was thought to be an anger attached to Pauls writings. I marvel (am shocked) that all I have taught you that you are so soon turning away from Him who called you into the Grace of Christ, to a different Gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert (distort) the gospel of Christ, but even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you that what we have preached to you, let him be accursed (Greek word, anathema). As we have said before, so now I say AGAIN, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you received, let him be accursed . (Galatians 1:6-9) ... (must have been very important to Paul, he mentioned the word accursed twice!! ) Oh, foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? Galatians 3:1. The Greek work used for foolish is anoetos. It means unintelligent, sensual, unwise and a fool. It also has a reference to someone whose mind is so unstable and indecisive that they will fall for any doctrine that comes along. Paul refers it to us being as children tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine that comes down the pike. Ephesians 4:14 Ill stop here. It was a great message that confirms everything that my faith personally believes. Ephesians 2:8 For by Grace you have been Saved through faith and that NOT OF YOURSELVES, it is the Gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.....BUT FOR THE CROSS OF CHRIST!! God will not allow anyone or any other doctrine to stand in the way of a hungry heart and a hungry spirit that comes to HIM.
