What a night! Another unforgettable performance by Eliza and Nina - TopicsExpress

What a night! Another unforgettable performance by Eliza and Nina Gerber at Don Quixotes! (September 16th.) Elizas intros to her songs were by turns profound and hilarious. (The toad water story has to be one of the most bizarre lead-ins to a song the GS has ever heard! Elizas comedic deliveries are second only to her musicianship. And her ruminations on old age and death only added to the impression that shes channeling her inner Woody Allen!) The GS was especially blown away by Fall Into the Night, which featured Ninas bluesy guitar riffs! It made him wish he had this version to play as his opening song for his tribute program to Eliza Sunday / Monday midnight (sleepless in the middle of the night ♪ ) on the 15th. The album song was played with this lead-in epigram from Nietzsches Night Song: Night has come; only now all the songs of lovers awaken. And my soul, too, is the song of the lover. (Although, admittedly, its hard to picture the mad musical philosopher with a cowboy hat and blue jeans!) As stated on the GSs FB page announcing the concert, Elizas poetic-storytelling compositions have prompted him to dare to call her genre--no, not Folk, Folk-pop, or Folk Americana, or even Country (as variously labeled when you download an album)--Mythopoetics with a Twang! (Btw, if folks start noticing this strange designation in their iTunes Genre box with a EG song, dont hold the GS responsible! The GS asked Eliza if she knew of a live version of Fall Into the Night and she advised an internet search. Didnt find any with Nina Gerber, but found this with Jens Lysdal. Many heartfelt thanks Eliza for bringing your music to our Santa Cruz community! youtube/watch?v=4vMCmqngY7s
