What a strange day, yesterday. We only wanted to do a short visit - TopicsExpress

What a strange day, yesterday. We only wanted to do a short visit to the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, and discuss (todays) lecture with Klaus at the Marsam. When were enjoying the Temple, on the upper court we met the Inspector for the Polish team, who led us to see Dr. Szafranski (whom I had to call anyway), who was on site. We were shown and explained the cleaning activities in the cliff over Hatshepsut and invited to see the work up close. So, next Tuesday I will be joining the team in the early morning to see the work (and the ancient graffiti, found there) for myself. After that, we went to the Marsam to have Lunch and discuss the lecture, but on the way there, we picked up Essam, who was walking the streets with a colleague and invited him for a cup of tea. At about three pm, we went to meet Ahmed at the at the TMP Library to donate a couple of Arabic childrens books and a book, written by our good friend Huub Pragt, called the Language of the Pharaohs. I told Ahmed that I still had to call Kent Weeks and Ahmed said Oh, but hes here at the library, so again someone I had to call, but walked right into our lives again by chance :-) After a delightful chat with Kent, in which we discussed our ideas for a cooperation (the website for the Library), we went back to our hotel for a bit if rest and in the evening we went to the Metropolitan House to meet with Dr. Szafranski. Upon arrival, there was a true welcoming committee. The whole team was waiting outside to greet us! As usual, our meeting took a bit more time then we thought and after three hours, sent in the most beautiful dig house on the West Bank, we went back to the Nile Valley Hotel & Restaurant. Since it was already 11.30, the kitchen was closed, but Hamada re-lit the barbecue and personally made some great Kofta for us. All in all a great day with great and unexpected encounters.
