What a surprisingly horrible start to the weekend!!! A group of NAFA students wanted to interview me for a project at short notice. I told them Id set aside time if they could meet me at Marine Parade National Library an hour or two before my reading there tonight. It was agreed, and I cancelled prior afternoon plans so that I could be punctual for the interview. Three hours before the interview was slated to begin, the students told me they were not turning up. After expressing my displeasure at such last minute news, she had the audacity to cite time constraints, urgent appointments and the noble act of informing me three hours before unlike some organisations who dont (FYI every other organisation by which Ive been interviewed has been incredibly courteous). I now understand why writers are generally unwilling to entertain students on an informal basis - there simply is no accountability or responsibility taken!!!
