What a wacky day yesterday in college football, a big chunk of which I missed riding the megabus. But I did see Mississippi States demolition of Texas A&M, who felll to earth with a thud, and Floridas survival over UT. One year Kevin Sumlin is going to hire a defensive coordinator who is his equal as an offensive guru, and then hell win at least an SEC championship. Hard to do it with a defense that gets shredded like that one did Saturday. Hes never really had good defenses, even when he was at Houston. Thats the only missing piece in his puzzle. Tennessee is improving, but theyve lost two games in a row they should have won. Florida was there for the taking and they just didnt get the job done. Didnt see the Ole Miss or Vanderbilt games. Bravo to Ole Miss (and who would have ever thought Id say something like that in my lifetime) for that win over Alabama. No one gave Vandy much of a shot against Georgia and they were right. It is going to be a rugged first year for coach Mason and his staff. I just hope he can ride it out and turn things around. Folks will jump back on the bandwagon as soon as he does. Overall, five of the Top 8 college football teams get beat, and Katy Perry does a better job picking games than the entire ESPN Game Day staff. What a day.
