What a weekend. I completed something that 4 years ago I never would have thought I would have been able to do. I had great help and motivation from my partner Ashton, and his teammates the PSYd-kicks. It was such an amazing experience. We we were getting ready to start, my adrenaline was pumping hard. I was nauseous, scared, excited, and a multitude of other emotions. When the smoke went off, we started, and sadly Ashton rolled his ankle in a huge rut. He toughed it out, and kept on going. We did *all* the obstacles (including the burpees if we count complete them), including multiple steep muddy hills. One hill that suck out to me, was one of the larger ones around mile 3. There was literally nothing to get a grip on, and people were helping each other make it up. I was able to help Ashton get up, but as he made it, I slid down and took out 4 people. It sucked, but we kept trying and I helped more people get up, and slid down again. Eventually I made my own way, and I took about 20 minutes to finally make it up. It was an amazing feeling getting up there. When I met up with Ashton, it was a bit emotional for him, as he made it up relatively easily, and I tried and tried and could not do it. I told him that no matter what, I would help when I can, and that we arent completing for time. I gave him a hug and we kept going. I could tell he was hurting, physically and emotionally. He could barely put any weight on it and after some tears, and hugs we made it to the 4th mile aid station. We had a talk and he admitted that he could not finish. A few hugs later we were able to get the EMTs to get him back to the med tent. Before he left, I took his headband and put it on my wrist. I said, that I wouldnt be here without him, and that he will finish, if in spirit only. It was sappy in retrospect, but I didn’t care. While we were waiting we met with Diane from the Corn Fed Spartans group, and she told us about her friend who, just a few months earlier, broke both of her legs in an accident. He boyfriend, Cliff, would literally carry their friend on his back to make it over. So, since we were both down a runner, they took me under their wings. Running the rest of the course was amazing, the teamwork, shared burpees, and the helping hand if I needed it was amazing. The last 2 miles were very difficult as my right knee was killing me. From the Rope Climb on, any decline would make it feel like being stabbed. It was tough. But I did it. We did it. That last slip wall, we helped get people over, because we are all Spartans and we all help each other. We spent at least 20 minutes just helping people get over, and cheering everyone on. Once everyone got over, we did a group jump at the end. When I got my medal, I was in tears. I never thought I would be here. My only wish was that Ashton could have ran next to me, but he was there on my wrist, and able to take some great pictures I wouldnt have been able to get. I love all of you, fellow Spartans, AROO!
