What a weekend!! Ive been trying and trying to think of words appropriate to describe the second Mountain Lakes 100 race but I dont have enough command of language to do it justice. Reading through the posts that others have had about this event, I really think it boils down to family. No longer shall I refer to the running community to which I consider myself so fortunate to have found here in Portland. Community is frankly too lacking of emotion. Family, is a much more appropriate term with much deeper meaning. Nowhere else have I witnessed so many people from so many different walks of life uniting together to contribute to a common goal. Pushing hard enough to run 100 miles through the dark of night means something personal and different to every person, yet every participant, crew member, and volunteer regardless of how much experience they have with the sport understands that it requires a significant physical and mental investment on race day and for many months prior. Its just incredible to witness. As for Go Beyond Racing, you did another incredible job planning and running this event, leaving nothing to chance! To all the folks out there that I know personally as well as the strangers, it was my absolute pleasure to help you on this journey and witness your struggle, your determination, and your exhilaration. This has all inspired me to make 2015 the year that I try to run 100 miles, and this is the race it shall be attempted at! I can hardly wait.....
