What about a two state solution? Sweet baby Jesus! What a remarkable idea! Lets split a country into two and displace millions of people, while killing a few million during the process! Ugh for some reason I have a faint inkling of a moment in history where a two state solution (read: partition) fueled by hegemonic powers was responsible for the largest mass migration and subsequently one of the highest number of displaced lives and unrecorded deaths and rapes of all time hmmm... I mean, I could be ~completely crazy~ but I feel like the British tried this before and it had devastating consequences for generations of South Asian peoples? No? Doesnt ring any ghanti? Hmm. But it could work! Yeah, it could maybe! You know, just think of it as a houseguest who has overstayed their visit, then trashes your entire house, then kills your family, then decides to light a match and burn your house down, and then draws a little line in the ashes and says See! Two state solution! What does it matter that it was your house to begin with in the first place and I burnt it down? Heh, were neighbourz thooo! Sharing iz caring brooo! 1947: partition. 1948: nakba. 2014: same shit. (I do recognise that these are two vastly different historical events/ countries/ narratives etc, and I dont intend on disrespectfully conflating them or pulling that whole ~were all one struggle one love~ crap, however I do wish to draw a parallel between the oppressive power dynamics that confiscated and convoluted the sovereignty of a nation state through the imperialism and violence of white (male) supremacy. I recognize that both are nuanced by pain, struggles, and politics that are specific to each community, but its frightening to see modern day colonialism veering itself down a road that history has proven to go awry, aka partitioning a country into two.)
