What an amazing opportunity! Its a pity Im far older than 16 - 19 but its definitely something I will be putting forward to our young people on the Creative Programme. The British Film Institutes Animation Camp is a week-long residential animation course for young people aged between 16 and 19, led by some of the industrys finest animators, as part of the BFI Film Academy. Taking place in February half term in Bristol, participants will learn the latest in stop-motion animation practice. The six-day programme will include sessions on story devising and stop-motion animation techniques, as well as career advice and master classes with practicing industry professionals from the world-beating Bristol animation scene. Working in small teams, participants will then create an animated short which will be screened at The Cube Cinema in Bristol. There is a small fee of £50, to cover accommodation, all meals, materials, tutors and equipment for the week, and participants will need to cover their own transport costs, but there are bursaries available for anyone who may need financial assistance. The camp is delivered by Calling the Shots, in partnership with the University of the West of Englands School of Animation. This camp will give a great introduction to animation, which is a difficult industry to break into, and participants will also learn story crafting skills, film-making skills and editing skills. Hopefully the creative young people involved in and supporting Young Bristol would be interested in this rare opportunity.
