What an epic stage 5 on the pave. Im sure it looked good on TV but I was disappointed when Froome was forced to pull out as it has certainly taken the shine off 4 or 5 mountain stages down the track that potentially would have been incredibly exciting and game-changing. Im not sure that the pay off of a spectacle like yesterdays is ever worth losing the inevitable showdowns we know will follow further down the track. Things were a little different for me yesterday. After relaying the pre-course info, for the first 89km my job was all about ripping from sector to sector with wheels and bottles for the boys. It included plenty moments of hair-raising driving, having to navigate our way through the blockades and small country lanes. Thankfully we didnt miss any of the points we were supposed to be at and our boys managed to get through the day relatively trouble-free and unscathed. However, chaos and carnage were the overall themes of the stage.
