What an exciting morning here at APEC. First grade students from Ms. Kim’s class at PS 205 came to learn all about butterflies. As we went out to start our nature hike, the children were greeted by a beautiful yellow swallowtail butterfly! Further along the trail, we stopped and Justin helped a caterpillar who was crawling along the trail. He picked him up and placed him on a nice green leaf. In the forest habitat the children spotted the tent caterpillars high up in the cherry tree. They learned they will become gypsy moths. At this point the children burst in to song and sang a few choruses of “Gypsy in the Moonlight”, a song from their Spring Concert which is this week. Ms. Karen was so impressed when she heard one little boy say, “you know, trees grow faster if they are sang to.” At the conclusion of our hike we stopped to watch a mother robin feeding a few of her babies in a nest. One young man was so excited, he hugged the weeping willow tree! PS 205 – please come and visit us again!
