What are our options at this point? We cant exactly strike and withhold our student labor in a society that views education as individual investment towards pursuing a better job. If we were organize ourselves within institutional means we could lobby and push to overturn Proposition 13 and return all of that Property Tax money into the education system, but even that promises stiff corporate resistance from the start of the movement to the time the ballots are cast. Overturning Prop 13 seems to be the best way to reverse tuition hikes, but we arent able to outspend the competition on this. I think its time to look at how we can move beyond institutional means of producing change. We cant keep our message on peoples TV screens, but we can bring our message to the streets--Organize! Everybody benefits from more accessible education and the greater public needs to realize that investing in responsible laws now secures a better future for decades to come.
