Our host will give us a tour around her passive solar and energy efficient home. You already have an energy efficient home! Why not come and share your ideas with us. We will have some afternoon tea as well. So come and join us. (We have limited spots, so please reply ASAP and I will forward details to you) [email protected]. If you have friends who may be interested in attending, please forward this to them. WE APPRECIATE YOUR HELP :) Saturday, 15 June 2013-1pm Sue is a local ‘green’ architect who recently moved into a house she has designed for herself. Design Sue wanted a light, airy, comfortable house that did not cost a fortune. The basic layout is a central living area with large, double glazed north-facing windows, which capture the view, and plenty of thermal mass. The house’s thermal mass comes from the rammed earth walls, (which also allow the house to ’breathe’), and a concrete slab (on a waffle pod). The external walls are heavily insulated as is the roof. Materials Sue has used materials that make as little impact as possible on the broader environment in their production. The house incorporates sustainable timber cladding on external walls, (radially sawn to minimise waste) and plant based, low or zero VOC paints and stains. Other significant aspects of the house are a 1.5 kW system of PV cells. Her main heating is a slow combustion stove in the living area, with a sleeve that heats her hot water and simmers her cooking. Her lighting is mainly 6 or 7 watt LED’s Saturday, 15 June 2013 - 1:00pm Reply via this email or call Deb on 0468 423 246 eico-op.au/events
