Singapore’s labour productivity grew by 0.2% per year from 2010 to 2013 and could possibly indicate an uphill task for the Government to hit its targeted 2% a year by 2020. Speaking at the Business Excellence Awards and inaugural Singapore Productivity Awards yesterday (30 Oct), DPM Tharman commented that “making the transition to a high-productivity economy is absolutely essential for Singapore.” DPM added that raising productivity was necessary for businesses to stay competitive and for Singaporeans’ incomes to rise given the country’s tight labour market.
