What do most dietitians and doctors do when confronted with cure of type 2 diabetes? Try to UNDO it! Read Rils fascinating story of success--despite the medical systems awful advice. Ril: When I was dxed with type 2 diabetes the Dr. sent me to a diabetic clinic to learn the ins and outs of eating healthy while diabetic and how to test my blood sugar. I sat there and listened to this dietitian (who weighed more than I did) tell me as a diabetic I needed to eat 45 grams of carbs and healthy whole grains at every meal. Plus 25 grams of carbs in snacks 2x a day between the 3 45 gram carb meals. That is INSANE! I went home and started eating low-carb, high-fat. In 3 months, I lost 20 pounds. And my HbA1c blood work was impeccable--they were amazed at my progress because most of their clients never do that well. They asked to see my food journal....and saw no wheat. (and seldom rice) and no fruit. Just meats, nuts, non-starchy veggies and the like...and proceeded to lecture me on healthy grains I was neglecting. With the evidence sitting right there in front of them with blood work of a healthy non-diabetic....they lectured me on how dangerous a high protein diet was. I foolishly tried to argue the difference, but soon I realized I was not going to get anywhere. So I agreed to add in some whole grain bread in my diet so Id be able to leave. I havent been back since and my diabetes is basically non-existent (except for on my medical record cause once you are diabetic in a medical record...you can never be not diabetic again).
