What do you all think about this question from the straight sister - TopicsExpress

What do you all think about this question from the straight sister of a lesbian who would like to bring her fiancee to girls night out? Is it simply about gender? Im not so sure.... Next up for #Civiltiies in the Wash Post. My sister and I have a group of girlfriends (there are 5 of us, total) who have been getting together for regular dinners about every 4 months and we have our last one of the year planned as a New Year’s celebration, right after the holiday. My sister is a lesbian and recently engaged; the other four of us are straight, and in relationships. Lately, my sister has been asking if she can bring her fiancee along to these girls night dinners--and the rest of us are finding it a little awkward. We like the freedom and easygoing feel of getting together without our significant others; we feel we can let our guard down and talk honestly. If my sister brought her fiancee, we think it would change the dynamic. My question to you is, first, is it ok for the rest of us to politely tell my sister that wed rather she didnt bring her fiancee to our dinners? After all, none of us ask to bring our husbands/boyfriends. And second, whats the best way to do this without offending my sister or her fiancee?
