As for the supposed national economic upswing, many local employers are struggling to stay afloat, never mind expand. Meanwhile the much-needed makeover of our city centre shopping district seems to be on indefinite hold due to an inability to find independent investors. It all begs the question: are our local politicians and business leaders up to the task in hand?
