What exactly did chivalry promote as a male ethic? Honesty, - TopicsExpress

What exactly did chivalry promote as a male ethic? Honesty, generosity, loyalty, justice, humility, the advocacy of what is right and good, the avoidance of slander, defense of women’s rights, and a special delight for those willing to try it, romantic love. These attributes were recognized as the most admirable qualities of real men. They still are, although we scarcely give them their honorable due. Our new vision of chivalry, what we call Chivalry-Now, derives its authority from the same principles as its medieval counterpart. It projects a vision that has evolved from its medieval roots to be appropriate for today’s needs. Imagine a business ethic based on fairness, compassion and good will, rather than manipulative, amoral commercialism. Imagine a popular support for equality, where women and minorities no longer have to fight for equal rights. Imagine a citizenry of men who so cherish what is good that the crime rate plummets. How about truth in politics, and leaders chosen for their real intelligence and good will? Marriages built on equal partnerships, with men fulfilling their spousal and parental responsibilities? Imagine a news media more concerned with truth than entertainment. Imagine the inspiration of a new slate of ethics rippling throughout entire populations, lowering tensions across the globe. This illustrates some of the grand possibilities that Chivalry- Now hopes to foster. It comprises the dream of the new knight errant. (for more information, see our website at chivalrynow.net.
