What happened to that fresh, idealistic guy? What happened to his power and popularity in the United States? Why doesn’t he dominate the political stage the way he once did? Why isn’t he as effective as we thought he would be? Some answers: The Middle East. Blame Bush who plunged us into the cauldron that is the Middle East. Short of pulling out all our troops at once, the only choice Obama had was to draw down our troops gradually while preparing the Iraqis to defend themselves & leaving a residual force there. Malakis resistance to accept the US terms for continued US military presence scuttled the deal & Malakis malfeasance opened the door to ISIS. ~ Obamas major mistake was to try to repair Bushs major mistake of forsaking Afghanistan to invade Iraq. We should not have gone back into Afghanistan. Sky-High Expectations for Obama as President were impossible to meet. He hasn’t met them. No one could.
