What happened to the Mexicans who owned the colonized land and why have you not told what happened to these people during the transition? History books are written as if the lands of America were never inhabited and that it took the courage of brave European pioneers to settle the country and make it what it is today. The Hegeman found ways to circumvent the law by instituting things such as “Jim Crow” laws. These laws were created to perpetuate the Hegeman’s dominance over African Americans and other Americans of color. Things did not get any better in the North when people of color reemerged or made their debut in the sugar beet fields, railroads, packinghouses and steel mills. “And baby will you look at me now”. We need to pierce the ugly puss filled boil of racism so that once and for all we can finally begin to heal this one thing that continues to tear our country apart. Are we ready to deal with the issue of slavery and oppression and their subsequent consequences? Are we ready to deal with what we did to the Native Americans and Mexican Americans and the negative consequences of colonialism? Are we ready to deal with the issue of European hegemony? Are we truly a nation of immigrants including those from south of the border?
