What happened to the tax free weekend? In case any middle class - TopicsExpress

What happened to the tax free weekend? In case any middle class parents are still wondering when the North Carolina sales tax-free weekend is this year, it was canceled by the Republican legislature. The reason given? The state was losing $13 million in revenues. Never mind that retailers say it was the second biggest weekend after “Black Friday”; forget struggling parents and teachers who saved money for back-to-school necessities. When the corporate tax breaks go into effect in January, and you, the average wage earner, lose earned income credits and many other breaks, it was because you allowed it. When your county raises sales taxes to repair roads and infrastructure because of budget shortfalls, it was you who allowed it. And who are you? You are the Republican voters who aren’t in the 1 percent, who seem to forget these inequalities and consistently vote against your best interests. Send them a message. Gerrymandering has created a situation where Democrat voters cannot change this alone. Show this legislature you care more about the economy and your family’s welfare than corporate tax breaks, more than who can marry whom, more than who prays where and to whom. We all make mistakes. You can make this right. Gary James, Asheville, NC
