What happens during recess can have a big impact on kids’ success in the classroom. Children who are physically fit absorb and retain information better than their less fit peers, according to new research. And the harder the lesson, the more kids appeared to benefit from being in good shape. It was fitness, and not body size, that made the difference in test scores: students who were overweight but in good shape outperformed their thinner, less fit counterparts.
