What happens to academics in an emergent curriculum classroom? - TopicsExpress

What happens to academics in an emergent curriculum classroom? It would be irresponsible to ignore the signs children give us when they are ready to learn about something. We watch for these cues all the time. For example, we might hear children asking questions about print, see them experiment with forming it, read it from predictable books, and recognize it within the environment. In any setting, including one that uses emergent curriculum, we respond to such cues by providing developmentally appropriate opportunities to use print in meaningful ways. Whether children are involved in an inquiry or a long term project, developmentally appropriate invitations, classroom work areas, and opportunities still exist. – Susan Stacey
