What has occurred will be difficult to explain, reason & ascertain. On 25th August, Medicine Post grads on duty began treating a collapsed new medico sitting on a hunger strike against the roll back of MBBS seats in RIMS. A cocky female journalist was asked to move away from the emergency zone and let the doctor carry put his duty with ease but she responded by raising her hand to slap him upon which the doctor questioned her benevolence. The cocky female illiterate of sorts journalist shockingly threatened the doctor to do what he was and would tear off her clothes and put up charges of attempt to rape if stopped. The doctor in his shocked senses asked the guards on duty to escort her outside owing to her nonchalance. The female journalist then registered a FIR against the Medicine doctors including the Unit heads for attempt to rape and on further knowledge web got to know that the That the Thana-in- charge( Bariatu) made a witting comment saying the doctors In RIMs are capable of this and is expected out of them. This started fueling anger gradually in the minds of the never tiring Postgraduates. The next evening local goons came in with her usual style of ownership & beat the guards on duty that they would teach all a lesson. The post grads present at that point of time took the goon in their hands and took him to the emergency with a few customary tussle nonetheless. Following which a few of his ilk came along with the same local policemen came around to threaten and find the people who dared to do this and was caught by the doctors and put in a room to question how was this possible that doctors were threatened on duty and possibly under violence with the support of then local thana morons. The medicos had their tussle with the local gunda which frankly is a befitting thing to do when the police are enunchs.A local media stud was caught in the heat and was quizzed by the docs and asked to leave.The City SP walked in through the group of medicos and talked of medicos to show some literate decency to which he was questioned on how doctors had to face this and that too the local thana had passed comments on their characters and supported goons since time eternity. He had no speck of an answer like them all. The Director RIMS,the shot in the arm kind of a guy with no sense of responsibility towards his institution turned out to be an enunch who betrayed the idea of a man in charge of so many lives. He along with the SP and the Junior Doctors sat for a discussion on this which eventually came out to be the same speech rendering avenue and after which people started waling away like all had settled down. But suddenly out of no where the police shitheads lathi charged juniors who were walking off to their hostels and caused physical harm which has never called for after a round table discussion between the two parties. This was the final nail in the coffin. The services were shut down and there were at least 200 policemen outside the hospital blocking the exit like we were criminals in the run. The doctors after much discussion walked off late to their hostels so as to wait for tomorrow. The next day the new papers were roasted with anti- medico propaganda, full of weird false narration of events like they thrashed everyone for no reason. ( 27th)The day began like the way it should with speculations. An official meeting declared that the strike will be called off after all charges and FIRs are rolled back which would happen on 28th. The same evening around 5pm 2-3 buses of Riot geared policemen(300-500) entered the campus and chased and thrashed any student visible. They beat them with lathis like they were criminals. They broke down doors of hostel rooms which were occupied and the medico was questioned , humiliated and possibly hit or dragged out and taken away in the buses for further police hospitality. Every medico in the campus was horrified that it had come to down to such a point that they were running for their lives through fields and narrow inroads. A few others locked themselves in the college area sitting there for hours. At least 50-60 medicos were picked and packed in a bus like criminals for the usual process. The most distasteful and spiteful scene was in around all this atrocity the DIRECTOR of RIMS was hand in glove with the police. He walked around with the SP and other constables who were thrashing and humiliating and abusing the doctors and he was the sole reason why it occurred. He took pride in bringing the sheer trust down on all. It was a hopeless situation when the police and a head of an institution go into such low that it becomes impossible to seek a path to walk on. Shockingly under the cover of police presence the local goons also entered the premises via the back broken walls and were on their own to hand it to the doctors. This was a pure case of poilce-goon nexus. The police officially declared that they have searched & vacated the hostels and so the medicos had to leave in some way for the night to save themselves from the goons who could land up inside and do what they do without any inhibitions. This morning the newspapers have what is attached for u to read and sense the helplessness. I do not know what lies in the coming hours. This country has lost its place for doctors and educated ilk. Every now & then the medical fraternity is bulldozed someway or the other. The media comprises of lesser people who have sold themselves for a sound byte. The police have been what they are, a lesser breed. The politicians are the broken back in this tragedy. This will always happen when the lesser people in education and deserving get more in all forms and the ones who spend their day and nights serving people for a mere 40000 salary get the boot, disrespect & have to deal with insecurity, fear & all those who think a doctor is owned by them all. I as a doctor have begun to regret this decision of selflessness that we have entered and taken an oath on. Today a few doctors with their own selfish agenda have brought us down(Director Rims). And frankly there is no association that we can put our faith in. Its just pure helplessness and anger. God only knows what will turn out. I on behalf of all doctors urge and request the IMSA /IMA / Various state & central institutes/private institutions/private clinics/nursing homes/ Corporate hospitals or at least the doctors with their souls intact and who entered this noble profession for one cause only- to follow the high moral, to unite and bring about a movement in support of us fellow doctors. Today its RIMS. Yesterday it was Kanpur. Tomorrow it could be anyone of you all.
